Keg capacity guide: how many kegs fit in each Xiltek beer dispenser

Key takeaways
  • Each XDD model fits a specific mix of 1/2 barrel, 1/4 slim and 1/6 barrel kegs.
  • More kegs is not always better: every keg needs air space around it to stay cold.
  • Allow at least 24 hours for new kegs to reach dispensing temperature.
  • Match the model to how many beers you pour and how fast each one sells.

A draft system is only as good as the kegs you can keep cold. Each Xiltek XDD series dispenser holds a specific combination of keg sizes. This guide shows the layouts that fit each model so you can plan your beer list before you buy.

Choosing your mix

  • Half barrels are the best value for your top sellers, since they serve the most beer per keg.
  • Quarter slims and sixth barrels let you run more varieties on a small footprint, great for rotating seasonal and craft beers.
  • Think about sell-through. A keg that sits too long goes flat and stale, so smaller kegs suit slower beers.

Airflow matters

Cold air needs to move around every keg. Packing a cabinet tight leaves warm spots, and warm kegs foam and pour poorly. Use the suggested layouts as a guide and leave space around each keg for proper circulation.

These are suggested layouts only. Improper air circulation leads to warmer cabinet temperatures and can affect beer service. Malfunction due to improper loading or overloading is not covered under warranty. Allow at least 24 hours for kegs to reach dispensing temperature.

Tips for great draft beer

  1. Let new kegs sit for the full 24 hours before you serve from them.
  2. Keep the cabinet and the draft lines clean. See how to clean condenser coils for the refrigeration side.
  3. Check the temperature regularly; most draft beer is served in the high 30s Fahrenheit.
  4. Rotate stock: first in, first out applies to kegs too.
